This means that in many EU countries, businesses selling batteries (or products containing batteries) are required to register for Batteries EPR and declare what they are selling.
One of these provisions requires major online marketplaces such as Amazon to check that their sellers in the applicable regions are correctly registered for Batteries EPR.
This includes all EU Member States who have currently implemented Batteries EPR, such as France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain (and others).
Although the EU has created harmonised rules across the bloc, individual Member States (countries) are required to implement their own regulations based on these rules.
Businesses must register for Batteries EPR in each country they are actively trading in – at TBA Global, we currently offer individual pricing options such as £152 in Netherlands, £224 in France etc.
This will vary depending on the intended country of registration. In general, you are required to provide:
- Company certificate (translation may be required)
- Product description(s), including URLs where applicable
- List of selling platforms
- Types of batteries sold (e.g. model numbers, size etc.)
Batteries is just one of the many categories of EPR regulations. The Batteries category only covers batteries (and products containing batteries), including portable (disposal/rechargeable), industrial and automotive batteries.
Other EPR categories also exist and are in varying stages of implementation across different EU Member States. This includes categories such as Packaging, WEEEE and more.
Sellers who have not uploaded their registration number(s) by this date may face measures such as product de-listings or seller account suspensions.
It’s important to note that EPR regulations also apply to other sales channels (e.g. your own website), and you are legally obligated to ensure that you are compliant. Numerous countries have implemented additional financial penalties for non-compliance.
However, lower trading volumes may result in lower contribution fee payments after registration, depending on the specific country and EPR category of registration.
