Amazon FBA New Policy

Using Amazon FBA?

Make sure you’re aware of Amazon’s delivery window requirement!

In April 2023, Amazon started requiring sellers who were using Amazon FBA to start providing a delivery window for their shipments made using ‘Send to Amazon’.

Send to Amazon is designed to help sellers streamline their inventory shipments to Amazon fulfilment centres.

A delivery window is an estimated date range for inventory to arrive at an Amazon warehouse after it is shipped by the seller.

So, what’s new?

New delivery window requirements for Amazon FBA

At the end of February 2024, Amazon completed the roll-out of a new requirement.

A more specific delivery window now needs to be provided based on the shipment:

  • Domestic shipments: 7-day window
  • Cross-border (international) shipments: 14-day window

It is now also possible to change your delivery window even after you’ve already submitted one.

The delivery window requirement only applies when you are using a third-party shipment/logistics provider that is not partnered with Amazon.

Performance warnings

Recently, some sellers started receiving notifications from Amazon that their shipments were outside the declared delivery window.  This included shipments that arrived early instead of late!

Some sellers were also asked to schedule a telephone meeting with Amazon to discuss how their shipments would be handled.

At present, Amazon has not announced any sanctions, but it’s important to be aware of Amazon’s policies as they may change in the near future!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why does Amazon require sellers to specify a delivery window?

This is used to ensure that Amazon fulfilment centres/warehouses operate efficiently, and for your inventory to be updated and assigned to your Amazon Seller Account quickly.

  1. What happens if the delivery window I provided is inaccurate?

You can change the delivery window based on your shipment/logistics provider’s new estimates.

  1. What if I’m using an Amazon-partnered logistics provider (including Amazon Global Logistics)?

There is no need to submit a delivery window.  Shipment details will be automatically arranged with Amazon.

  1. What happens if my shipment/logistics provider consistently fails to meet the delivery window?

At the moment, Amazon has not announced any official policies.  However, some sellers have been asked to schedule a meeting to explain why their shipments missed the delivery window.  It is likely that Amazon may make the rules stricter in the near future.
