GPSR - EU Responsible Person for Amazon sellers

Have you appointed a EU Responsible Person yet?

If you’re selling on Amazon in the EU, you may be aware that Amazon recently discontinued their Amazon Responsible Person (ARP) service on the 31st March 2024. This means that in order to comply with your EU product safety obligations, you’ll need to appoint an EU Responsible Person (EURP) this year.

CE-certified products

It has been mandatory to appoint an EURP for CE-marked products since the 16th July 2021.  What has changed now?

  • Amazon discontinued their ARP service as of the 31st March 2024
  • Amazon started suspending product listings without a valid EURP as of the 1st April 2024

If you’re selling third-party branded products, the original manufacturer may be able to provide their own EURP – you can contact them for more information.

All EURP information must be uploaded to Amazon Seller Central for verification.

GPSR

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) will be enforced from the 13th December 2024

This means that:

  • All non-food items will also require an EURP to be appointed
  • The GPSR applies to non-CE-marked goods
  • All businesses with customers in the EU are affected, whether based on the EU or not
  • Food items are covered by separate safety regulations, so an EURP is currently not required

So, if you’re selling to EU customers and are not currently required to appoint an EURP (for example, selling non-CE-marked goods), you’ll most likely still need to appoint one by the enforcement date.

The GPSR also requires sellers to update their product listing and packaging with more information about their appointed EURP – find out more here.

We highly recommend that you arrange this before the deadline, otherwise Amazon may suspend your sales until they are able to verify your nominated EURP.  This process can take some time, so don’t delay!

Not sure where to start?
