EORI - Optimising Global Trade

Avoid lengthy delays and streamline your international trade with the right EORI number.

Getting the right EORI number for your needs (Economic Operator’s Registration and Identification Number) will help facilitate the importing and exporting of your goods across your intended marketplaces.  Having the appropriate EORI number for your needs will allow you to:

Streamline customs procedures and avoid unnecessary delays.

Send inventory to your target markets and allow your customers to receive goods quicker.

Navigate post-Brexit importing/exporting rules if you are looking to trade in the UK.

What is an EORI Number?

An EORI (Economic Operators and Registration and Identification) number is a unique identification number used for customs clearance when goods are in transit or being imported/exported.

Different EORI systems apply for the UK, and within the EU single market. Businesses intending to trade in the UK (including importing inventory into the UK) will usually need to obtain a UK EORI number.  Likewise, businesses intending to trade in the EU (including importing inventory into any EU Member State) will usually need to apply for an EU EORI number.

Countries that are part of the European Union (EU) will usually require an EORI number for businesses or individuals engaged in international trade. This includes:

EU Member States:

Businesses and individuals within the EU that engage in cross-border trade.

Non-EU countries trading with the EU:

Businesses or individuals outside the EU involved in trade with EU member states.

Additionally, businesses moving inventory to or from the UK, which is no longer part of the EU, will need a separate UK-issued EORI number to fulfil import/export regulations.

When to Register for an EORI Number

You will typically need an EORI number if:

01

You’re an EU-based business storing inventory in other EU Member States, or trading outside the EU.

02

You import inventory from other countries into the EU.

03

You’re based outside the EU, and you ship inventory to and from EU Member States.

04

You import inventory to and from the UK.

An EORI number is a crucial step if you trade in the EU. It ensures compliance with local regulations and helps prevent trouble with customs procedures which could disrupt the flow of your business. Check out our detailed article on here.
